The Chilean Army proudly includes as part of it’s important cultural heritage, historical sites, National Monuments and museums, situated at various geographic parts of the country from Arica to Punta Arenas.


The San José del Carmen de El Huique Museum is located in the VI Region of Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins, in the Comuna de Palmilla at 56 kms West of San Fernando city, capital of the Colchagua Province.
 
The Colchagua Valley was one of the main agricultural areas of the country because of the big family "haciendas" which were the productive economic centers of the central region of Chile. Today remains of these old "patronal" houses can be seen along the roads.

The "patronal" house of the old Hacienda San José del Carmen de El Huique, now a museum, is the only living witness of that era, conserving all it’s original furniture, traditions and customs.

In 1971 it was declared Historic National Monument. Donated by it’s last owner, the Sánchez de Loria Errázuriz family, to the Army in 1975 and opened to the public as Historical Agricultural and Manners and Customs Museum in 1996, today it is part of the officially declared protected typical zone of 79,85 ha.

San José del Carmen de El Huique Museum falls under the wing of the Department of Historic Cultural Patrimony of the Army.
